All vendors that are certified by AHAS must meet these requirements for their meat products excluding fish (not seafood in general).
Muslim Slaughterer
The animal must be slaughtered by a practicing muslim. A non-muslim slaughterer will not be accepted.
Slughtered by Hand
The animal must be slaughtered by hand. Mechanical slaughter is not accepted under current industry norms.
Tasmiyah
The animal must be after uttering the words "باسم الله, الله أكبر".
Horizontal Incision
The animal must be slaughtered by the use of a sharp knife, horizontally so that the trachea, esophagus and carotid are cut. This is in contrast to vertical incisions which prioritize choice cuts of meat but do not leave the aformentioned tubes intact.
Reversible Stunning
Reversible stunning (stunning that does not kill the animal) is accepted but not recommended. The use of irreversible stunning (stunning that kills the animal) is not accepted.
Non-meat ingredients must be free of alcohol and animal byproducts that are not permissible for Muslim consumption, such as alchohol, insects, and swine by-products.
